The History Of PHS

Precision Hydrographic Services, more commonly known as PHS has been operating since 2008 and was founded by Neil Hewitt.

PHS is proud to be a wholly Australian owned and operated hydrographic surveying and metocean services company.

In the early years, PHS was predominantly focused on support of port and harbour management and navigational safety. PHS have provided metocean monitoring services including tide gauge, AWAC and weather installations throughout all Pilbara Port Authority (PPA) ports.

PHS is proud to uphold the highest standards of integrity. All PHS projects are overseen by a Certified Professional Hydrographic Surveyor Level 1 (CPHS1)/Project Manager. Certification to Level 1 is the highest attainable level of professional hydrographic surveying certification, which provides our clients with complete confidence in our thorough understanding of the theoretical and practical aspects of hydrographic surveying, as well as the complexities of maintaining quality assurance principles. It is the benchmark of quality.

PHS has a strong history of achievements. In 2017, PHS was announced as the co-recipient of the Hydrographic Excellence Award, which ‘recognises those individuals or teams working across the various hydrographic disciplines who have made an outstanding contribution to the science of hydrography’. PHS share the award with the Pilbara Ports Authority (PPA), in recognition of the application, promotion and implementation of advanced hydrographic practice in the tidal study project conducted to support the Port of Port Hedland.

In 2019, PHS was selected to be on a panel of seven hydrographic survey companies to provide hydrographic services to the Australian Government through the HydroScheme Industry Partnership Program (HIPP). The HIPP is a long-term partnership between Defence and the Australian hydrographic industry to deliver Australia’s charting obligation. It will enable safe navigation for mariners and support Australia’s maritime industry.

PHS is a provider of reliable, and high-quality information. We make complex data from multiple sources simple to consume, manage and interact with.
